SoCal part 2

as promised, now here are some pictures of the giant's causeway...

this is the first part of the causeway we happened upon while walking around the trail. it's called the organ, and it doesn't take a huge stretch of the imagination to see why, i suppose. rob decided it would be fun to climb, so off he went. he didn't get very far, but i suppose it does look pretty fun, doesn't it?

this is the main part of the causeway, which is a big point jutting out to sea. these pillars apparently were formed by volcanic explosions underwater, and something to do with heat and freezing temperatures. anyway, this part of the causeway really looked like volcanic rocks. in actuality, the entire antrim coastline was dotted here and there with huge volcanic rocks among the other stuff. it was pretty cool.

this is a close up of some of the pillars, you can really see the shape of them here. neat, huh? just remember that this is all naturally formed. apparently it was almost one of the seven natural wonders of the world, but just lost out. rumor has it it was ranked number eight. oh well. less tourists, i suppose.

this is the very end of the point, at least in terms of where you can walk. rob and i had to be very careful walking out there, wedging our feet in the rocks and such. now, the rocks keep going, even if rob couldn't. they continue under the water for miles, i hear that they keep going until scotland. that's pretty cool, expecially when we could just make out scotland across the water on the last day when it was clear.

so, that's portrush and county antrim, next up on the agenda, the dingle peninsula in county kerry. it was a pretty cool place, so be sure to keep an eye opened for it.

until then,

cheers,

scott
